Rob Zombie’s Munsters BTS Video Reveals First Look at Lily’s Uncle Gilbert

Rob Zombie reveals a new look at his upcoming reboot of The Munsters featuring Lily’s Uncle Gilbert. Zombie confirmed in June 2021 that he was working on a reboot of the classic sitcom, which originally aired for two seasons from 1964 to 1966. The reboot will star Zombie’s wife, Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily, Daniel Roebuck as Grandpa, and Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman. Zombie is also introducing new characters to the franchise, including Barbara Carr (Cassandra “Elvira” Peterson), Floop (Jorge Garcia), Dr. Henry Augustus Wolfgang (Richard Brake), and Zoya Krupp (Catherine Schell), to name a few.

Zombie is no doubt trying to give The Munsters a fresh makeover for modern audiences, yet he is still making sure his movie stays faithful to the original series. The director wanted The Munsters’ iconic mansion to be identical to the original, and he is also bringing back more obscure characters for his movie. Herman’s boss Mr. Gateman, now played by Jeremy Wheeler, will make an appearance in the film, as will two of Lily’s family members. Tomas Boykin was revealed to be playing Lily’s werewolf brother Lester Dracula last month, and an unknown actor is playing her Uncle Gilbert.

Zombie posted a behind-the-scenes video from The Munsters that gave the first look at Uncle Gilbert. The video shows Herman, Lily, and Uncle Gilbert waving to the camera, with Zombie explaining in the caption that Uncle Gilbert stopped by the set to eat some seaweed before heading to the airport. This video is just another example of how seriously Zombie is taking The Munsters reboot. There was initially concern over Zombie helming the film since it is so different than everything else in his filmography. Still, worries have started to die down, especially after it was officially rated PG. Surviving cast members of the original Munsters series are also involved in the reboot, including Pat Priest (Marilyn), who will be playing a new character in the movie, and Butch Patrick (Eddie Munster). It’s unknown if Patrick will have a cameo in the reboot, but he is likely someway involved in Zombie’s film since the actor claims to know The Munsters’ runtime will be over 2.5 hours long.

It still hasn’t been announced if Eddie and Marilyn will be involved in The Munsters’ storyline; however, it’s reassuring to hear goofy characters like Lester and Gilbert are making a comeback. Uncle Gilbert’s design looks almost identical to the version in the ’60s, complete with his hat, scarf, and trench coat. It’s unknown if Gilbert will have the same backstory as he did in The Munsters, a former politician who became wealthy after finding lost sea treasures, but at least it’s another sign Zombie is planning to pay tribute to the classic ’60s sitcom.
