How to add multiple accounts to your Oculus Quest 2

With its multi-user account feature, Oculus allows you to add up to three additional accounts above and beyond the original administrator account. You can add and remove these accounts freely so you don’t have to worry about being locked out or exceeding a limit.

As this is an experimental feature, the process can be changed or removed at any time. If you don’t see the option, it may not be available for your headset yet, or it may have been removed.

Here’s how to add a second, third, or even a fourth account to your Oculus Quest 2:

Place your Quest 2 and open it.

choose Settings (gear icon) in the main navigation bar.

choose experimental resources.

choose Multiple accounts and library sharing toggle, make it blue.

Once this toggle is enabled, a new Accounts option will appear in the Settings menu.

Set up a device unlock code to secure your account by following the onscreen instructions.

Select Continue and give the headset to the person with the account you want to add to Quest 2.

Stay highlighted in the add account popup on Oculus Quest 2.

The person you add needs to log into their Facebook account, set the headset fit and lens distance, and follow the on-screen instructions to set up Guardian.

How do multiple accounts work in Quest 2?

Prior to the introduction of the multi-user feature, each Quest 2 could only have one account. This means that if you want to allow others to use your Quest 2 or a group of family or friends to share a single headset, all device users must use the original user’s account. There was no per-user customization. Every app and game purchase had to be made by the administrator. Individual users could not save game progress or high scores and any social features linked to the original user’s Facebook account.

The only way to change the administrator account was to factory reset the Oculus Quest.

Quest 2 can have an administrator account and three additional accounts with multi-user capability. Each account can access the games and apps belonging to the administrator account through the Oculus game sharing feature. Accounts can also purchase games and apps, customize the VR experience to their own specifications, have game progress and high scores, and use social media integration if they choose to enable this feature.

Although the administrator account shares your games and apps with secondary accounts, the reverse does not work. If a secondary account purchases a game or app, only that account can access that game or app.

The original administrator account that enabled Quest 2 will be locked unless you do a factory reset, but additional accounts can be added and removed at any time. This means you can easily use this feature to give a friend a personalized VR tour and remove their account later.

How Do Multiple Accounts Work on Quest 2?

Before the introduction of the multi-user feature, each Quest 2 could only have a single account. That means if you wanted to let other people use your Quest 2, or a family or group of friends shared a single headset, every user of the device had to use the original user’s account. There was no per-user customization. Every app and game purchase had to be made by the admin. Individual users couldn’t save game progress or high scores, and all social features linked to the original user’s Facebook account.

The only way to change the admin account was by performing a factory reset on the Oculus Quest.

A Quest 2 can have an admin account and then three additional accounts with the multi-user feature. Each account can access games and apps owned by the admin account through the Oculus game sharing feature. The accounts can also purchase games and apps, customize the VR experience to their specifications, have game progress and high scores, and use social media integration if they choose to enable that feature.

While the admin account shares its games and apps with the secondary accounts, it doesn’t work the other way around. If a secondary account purchases a game or app, only they can access that game or app.

The original admin account that activated the Quest 2 is locked in place unless you perform a factory reset, but the additional accounts can be added and removed at any time. That means you could easily use this feature to give a friend a personalized VR tour and then remove their account afterward.
