This 3D paper craft model will guide you through the 4 stages of the butterfly’s life cycle…

adult butterfly

Each quarter of the screen is divided into a stage, the butterfly stage shows an adult monarch as a butterfly.

Eggs

The next step shows a leaf filled with butterfly eggs.

caterpillar (larva)

Next, there is a caterpillar gnawing at its leaf.

chrysalis (chrysalis)

A step must be taken with chrysalis before the butterflies are all beautiful and colorful.

Roll the butterfly life cycle kraft paper and observe every step of the process.

How to make a 3D butterfly lifecycle craft

What do you need:

  • our butterfly lifecycle model template
  • thicker printing paper/cardboard
  • scissors
  • Gum
  • optional: coloring materials if printing the black and white version

step by step tutorial

Print templates – in color or black and white in advance. If you printed in black and white, the first thing to do is color.

Cut 4 screens with tree branch.

Fold along all the dotted lines.

Make nice, clean creases.

Run your fingers through the folds – the nicer the folds, the easier the next steps.

Apply glue to the area marked with the word glue.

Paste the area containing the word paste under the green part of the quarter.

The first quarter of your butterfly life cycle diorama is ready!

Do more 3.

Now we need to glue them all together, we need to apply glue to a rectangular part of the diorama.

Glue the two dioramas together.

Add the third…

And the fourth that completes your 3D model.

While the glue hardens, continue cutting out images of the butterfly’s life cycle.

We’ve added the step names (two for the two versions of the words), you can cut them out and add them to your template or make them without the word tag.

Let’s start with the eggs! Fold along the dotted line…

…apply glue to the area marked with the word glue and stick it to one of the 4 dioramas – stick it to the branch.

Do the same with the caterpillar.

Pupa…

…and the adult butterfly.

finished! Your 3D model of the butterfly’s lifecycle is complete.
